Medrar’s 7^th Cairo Video Festival will open 10 December in Zawya Cinema

This year’s edition of the Cairo Video Festival is set to host its opening night in Cinema Zawya on Thursday 10 December at 7pm. The programme will stretch between 10-25 December. The festival, will showcase an official selection including works by 116 artists of video art and experimental film works from 38 countries, in addition to 24 works that were handpicked by Medrar’s team from Egyptian and international artists.

The festival’s ongoing exhibition of video will take place between Medrar for Contemporary Art and the Contemporary Image Collective while the screenings will take place every other day in Zawya Cinema in Downtown and the French Institute in Mounira.

This year’s jury comprised of Egyptian visual artist and filmmaker Hala El-Kousy, London and Cairo based curator and writer Mia Jankowicz along with Danish video artist Morten Dysgaard.

Highlights of this year’s curated programme include renowned internationally acclaimed artist Marina Abramović’s The Scream, (Serbia, 2014), Iraqi artist Adel Abidin’s Three Love Songs, (Iraq, 2010) and Vincent Borcard’s War (Switzerland, 2014-2015)

The 7^th Cairo Video Festival is founded and organised by Medrar for Contemporary Art and supported generously by the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC), Pro Helvetia-the Swiss Arts Council, DEDI-The Danish Egyptian Dialogue Institute, and the Japan Foundation.

The 6th Cairo Video Festival, until November 20th 2014 at Medrar for Contemporary Art, Cinema Zawya, and Gezira Art Center, Cairo, Egitto.
Medrar, this year, has decided to screen in different venues for broader audience, varying from the audience of independent cinema, visual arts and the wider cultural interest.
The festival is dedicated to the power of creative minds. Finding the balance in its film selection between rich concepts and masterful techniques. Is also inspired by the “generator,” which has become a staple in the life of Egyptians, due to the frequent power outages over the past two years.
Through ten days of screenings, artists talks, and discussions the Cairo Video Festival fosters this growing public interest in new media production and experimentation to expose audiences to artists and concepts from around the world.
Those films are shown to a wide audience in Egypt, and it propose to show many different ideas from all around the world.

فنون الفيديو، افلام تجريبية

يسعى المهرجان ليكون أداة عون للمارسات الفنية المعاصرة التى يقوم بها الفنانين الشباب من خلال اتاحة فرص عرض أعمالهم للجمهور. والفكرة الرئيسة مبنية على نداء مفتوح للإشتراك من خلاله يستطيع اى فرد فى العالم التقدم للمهرجان. معايير أختيار الأعمال المشاركة هى الجودة والقيمه الإبداعية للمحتوى.

فى العام 2005 بدأ مهرجان الفيديو ، هذا الحدث الذى يهدف الى خلق مساحة كشف وحوار بين الفناين الشباب والجمهور، من خلال برنامج يعرض أعمال فيديو تجريبية منخفضة التكاليف، لقاءات مع الفناين، حوارات مفتوحه.

من خلال عشرة أيام عروض، محاضرات مع فنانين و مناقشات مهرجان القاهرة للفيديو يشجع الإهتمام المتزايد بالأساليب الصوتية المرئية لتعريض الجمهور المحلي لفنانين و أفكار من حول العالم.

Il Cairo Video Festival, importante festival di video arte della capitale egiziana, giunge alla sua sesta edizione e sarà presentato da Medrar for Contemporary Art nel novembre del 2014. Fin dalla sua nascita si propone di essere una piattaforma di riflessione sulla società contemporanea e il mezzo artistico video, e come ogni anno ospiterà numerose tavole rotonde per dibattere il tema con artisti, curatori e critici.

Fino al 15 giugno sono chiamati a concorrere video sperimentali e di nuova produzione realizzati a partire dal 2011 con una durata massima di trenta minuti.
